Is this news to you? I’m not a mind reader.

Wish I was.

When it’s time to work with a designer, here’s something to keep in mind. Designer’s listen to what you say/type and go off to make magic. But they can’t read your mind.

If you’re holding back, it’s not the designer’s fault when they can’t deliver exactly what you want.

So before you approach me or one of my designer sisters, do your part.

  1. Research cover styles you like. Amazon is a good resource.

  2. Start a Pinterest board. Collect images that represent the look and feel of your book.

  3. If you find stock images that have your ideal couple, bookmark them. BigStockPhoto.com is a good place to look.

  4. If you like a certain type of typography, note that. Be as specific as you can about fonts. Add examples to your Pinterest board.

Then, send all of that to me. The covers you like. A link to the Pinterest board. Links to stock art imagery.

I’ll send you a link to a cover art form. The more information you include, the better. If you have a certain chapter that really exemplifies the feel of the book, send that to me as well.

All of that helps me determine a cover that will sell your book and make you happy. But it takes two to tango. So keep the lines of communication open. Sound good?
